Welcome to Thunder Hill Equine Drum Horses
We're glad that you have taken time to visit our website.
We hope to make this a one-stop location for everything horse, especially for the Drum Horse. The site is still under construction so please stop back again in the future to see what we have created. If there is something that you would like to see added or changed please contact us and we will do our best to incorporate the information for you.
Located on the edge of the Rocky Mountain foothills, northwest of Calgary Alberta near the Hamlet of Harmattan, we are a small select breeder of the wonderful Drum Horse. The Drum Horse is considered a type at this time, but it is our vision to not only bring colour back to the heavy feathered horses, but to attain full breed status for the Drum Horse using some of the best Gypsy, Shire, and Clydesdale Horse bloodlines.
Our policy is not to breed what we think people want to buy; but to breed the kind of horse that makes our hearts pound, the ones we wish we could keep forever.
News and Events
July 21-23: We attended the combined Alberta and Canadian Pinto Horse Association National show and the Alberta Pinto Horse Association Open Show in Ponoka with Arianna and Archie. Arianna was a superstar: First in Open Mares 5 years and older, at the Alberta Open Show and first in Pinto Draft at both the Alberta Pinto and National Pinto shows. Archie placed second in Open Stallions at the Alberta Open show, but didn't do as well in the Alberta and National Pinto Stallions class.
June 24: Heart Mt. Hoover gave birth to a beautiful filly foal sired by our young stallion Spencefarms Apache. This is Hoovers third foal and should be as amazing as her first two: THE Balafon and THE Enigma. This is Archies first foal and will be for sale. The filly is an F2 solid Bay that we have named THE Fianna.
June 10-11: We had planned to attend the Canadian Pinto Horse Spring Show at the Olds Megadome. Unfortunately we were unable to attend because Willow decided to foal three weeks early as I was finishing packing the trailer to leave. Willow also retained her placentia so I made the decision to stay home and monitor my horses. The filly is a big Bay Tobiano that will go Grey like her Dam. We have named her Thunder Hill Roxy and she will be perfect to join her mother on our Rocky Mountain packing trips.
April 21-23: We attended the Mane Event in Red Deer, Alberta. We had a booth again, and met many nice people who were interested in learning more about the Drum Horse. We also had 5 of our horses there to participate in the Best of the Breeds Demo. Spencefarms Apache and DCF Arianna were shown under harness as a team and acted like they had been doing these events all their lives. Mariah's Esme and THE Enigma were a bit nervous but performed quite well for their first trips off the farm, they had several admirers come and visit them in the barn. THE Calliope was so relaxed that she was positioned to walk beside a young stallion to help keep him calm and learn his show manners. The announcer even changed our script to mention Callie because she impressed him so much. Thanks go to Stuart, Holly, Christina, and Jaycee for all your help with the Thunder Hill horses.
